House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi called the fed’s troubled “Secure Communities” program a waste of money, as members of Congress held a press conference in Los Angeles to call for a suspension of the program. Illinois, New York and Massachusetts have already announced their withdrawal from S-Comm, following numerous reports that the program has led to non-criminal immigrants and even victims of domestic violence being caught up in the fed’s deportation dragnet, resulting in a chilling effect on community-police relations. And then there are the accusations that the feds engaged in systematic lying and dishonesty when it came to the question of whether states and municipalities can opt-out of the program. So, today Gov. Jerry Brown is being asked to end California’s participation, too.

Or as Pablo Alvarado, director of the National Day Laborer Organizing Network, put it, "What started as an effort to uncover the truth about S-Comm has evolved into a consensus view that the program should be scrapped all together. S-Comm has come to symbolize the President's broken promises on immigration reform. The fact is that it has not yet been frozen is now being viewed as a betrayal and places the urgent need to end the program on the desk of our local officials. Our local officials were misled into the program and now is the time to lead us out. The tide is turning on the dangerous and dishonest ‘Secure Communities’ program. ICE has gotten into the snake oil business. It sold S-Comm to the American public under false pretenses. It makes communities less safe, it imperils civil rights, and it is poisoning political efforts to reform unjust immigration laws. Today, Rep. Becerra and the other Congresspeople said very clearly that this program has no place in California or anywhere in our democracy. We must prevent the Arizonification of our community whether it comes in the form of SB 1070 or S-Comm. There is an urgent need for California to do better for its residents and to suspend S-Comm immediately."

Immigration Act of 1986

Immigration Act of 1986 blocked a lot of people from adjusting their status. Result: 11 million undocumented residents, 4 million American citizen children who leave in fear of losing parent or both parents, young students who a Americans without documents, spouses of American citizens who are being deported. Republicans enacted that Act to secure a supply of slave labor and ensure that there no way for the "slaves" to become legal. Republicans knew that people were crossing the border, bringing families, having children. They knew about that in 1990, 1991,...2000. What did they do? NOTHING. Instead of revisiting the Immigration Act and fixing it's flaws, They did absolutely NOTHING. Republicans will fight tooth and nail against any legalization because they don't want to be sued by former "slaves" for underpaid wages and inhuman working conditions. Too sad that Obama calls that a Democracy.

It is sad that Obama is listening to hate groups and racists, and not using his power that was given to him by Working People. Where is Democracy in that?! Or may be he doesn’t care about 4 million American citizen children who lost or about to lose one or both parents. He never cared about immigration reform. He lied to get to the White House, he lied to become a President. Obama has unresolved personal issues with his father leaving him and his mama. He only became a President to proof that his papa was wrong. Obama doesn’t care about people, he enjoys other people sufferings. Vote him out. Obama is just a miserable liar, who even cannot keep his word. Vote him out.

You've got it wrong, Kolos100. The 1986 act gave AMNESTY to more than 3 million illegal aliens, with the condition that the laws would be enforced and we would have no more illegal immigration. The Act your refer to in 1996 was because the enforcement provisions of the 1986 act were NOT carried out. There should have been NO illegal aliens here in 1996 to adjust status if the provisions of the 1986 amnesty had been carried out. The Working People of this country, including this lifelong labor DEMOCRAT oppose amnesty and illegal immigration. In fact, while unemployment is this high, we should be cutting back on even LEGAL immigration.

"Troubled"? How is Secure Communities "troubled"? Just because a bunch of anarchists whine and moan about the rule of law being actually enforced doesn't mean it's troubled. In fact, the program is working VERY WELL and getting foreigners who have chosen to violate our laws out of here.

And that's why the slave traders are complaining. They want to keep their slave labor and illegal votes.

They all have to home, and they will. Hopefully it will be through enforcement of laws, because at some point the People will start taking the law into their own hands (which always happens when anarchy becomes the norm), and it's not going to be pretty.

Mrs Pelosi and her husband have commited so many improprieties, if not outright crimianality, that she should resign. Her remark about Americans who go to their Townhalls to meet with their elected representatives as beign NAZI'S , should have been enough to have her thrown out. i guess $100,000 bar bills,and the countless flights on military jets for family and friends wasn't wasting taxpayer dollars.but a legal program that tries to slow the flood of criminals into our cities is a waste of taxpayer dollars.this problem must be fixed or we are gone as a country....yes, i'm a racist...Real.American.Committed.to Integrity.Sovereignty. and the Rule. of law.

Your response was very good. People may have forgotten how she wasted the taxpayer's money. Just for your information. She complained about flying on the government business jet because it was too small, had to make a stop to refuel, and could not carry enough passengers. So she got a B757 to fly back and forth. The cost to maintain such an aircraft plus the fuel is very high.

Peddle Drudge Report crap somewhere else

Pelosi flew on the jet recommended to her by the House Sergeant at Arms, who asked that she fly non-stop because of security concerns, as he had for other Speakers since 9/11. She asked to use the previous REPUBLICAN speaker's transport, which was a 12-seat C-20B. She never requested another jet, she NEVER requested to fly on a B757, she NEVER complained about having to stop to refuel.

This is the WRONG place to peddle bullshit like what you just posted.

I did some additional research and found that you are partially correct. She did have authority to fly a larger jet C-32 to make non-stop flights, mainly during the winter. The authority came from the White House for security purposes. She did request a larger jet to be able to make non-stop flights from Washington to California. The C-32 is a modified 757. You have your opinion, and I have mine and I express it without the foul language.

Fred, the leftist Democrats always use foul language. They cannot live without it. Some of the most vile folks I have ever met and talked to were those on the left. I am dissillusioned with conservatives also, but I've never found them to use such vile ways of expressing themselves to others and towards others. If the government is not willing to enforce the laws regarding illegal immigration, then why have any borders at all. Government officials like Nancy are part of the problem, not part of the solution. I hope the people in her district vote her out of office in 2012. She is useless as a Congresswoman.

I think its a step in the right direction. Why is everyone complaining? it really is saving the goverment money, they wont have the cost of jail space they wont have the cost of deporting them, less families have to suffer. But you know that immigration is big buisness for the USA. It will make the immigration system seem a little more human.
