Mark Zuckerberg about to feel some heat

Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg plans to host a fundraiser for New Jersey Governor Chris Christie at his Palo Alto home tomorrow, and Democracy for America has started a petition calling upon the young billionaire to "unfriend" Christie, on account of his opposition to same sex marriage. Also, Credo Action plans to stage a protest nearby Zuckerberg's place because they're pissed at Christie for taking a "lead in the Republican war on women" in his support for de-funding Planned Parenthood.

Here's the full text of Democracy for America's call to action:

Mark Zuckerberg, co-founder of Facebook, has made major strides in the past few years, turning the world’s largest social network into a more open and inclusive place for the LGBT community. Indeed, Zuckerberg, who married in 2012, has been an avid supporter of LGBT equality in the workplace for his employees at Facebook.

But, in New Jersey, tens of thousands of couples cannot share their love and be recognized because Governor Chris Christie vetoed the marriage equality bill passed by the Senate and Assembly. Currently, LGBT families across the state of New Jersey are second-class citizens denied the fundamental freedom to marry the person they love.

Yet, this week, Mark Zuckerberg is hosting a fundraiser at his Palo Alto home for his "friend," Governor Christie. Zuckerberg should know that Gov. Christie is no friend to the LGBT community in New Jersey, and that because of his veto and his pressuring Republican colleagues in the legislature not to override, he is singlehandedly blocking New Jersey from having marriage equality.

So, we're calling on Zuckerberg to do something to support all LGBT families by affirming his support for marriage equality in the state of New Jersey and as we've been saying on Twitter this week: #UnfriendChristie. By that, we mean:

He could cancel his fundraiser.
He could lobby Gov. Christie to change his mind.
He could reach into his pocket to give money to organizations fighting for marriage equality in New Jersey.

But, he shouldn't be silent, all the while supporting the reelection of the one man who stands in the way of marriage equality becoming a reality in New Jersey.

"anon" is the same amateur troll who rushes to defend the supervisor responsible for the nudity ban and other divisive, conservative legislation. Just thought I'd point this out.

Thank you for the article.

It's not a witchhunt to protest a powerful person for their ignorant and regressive politics. Dumbass.

It's about purity, progressives hate non conformity.

When I used to work with a lot of progressives it would astound them that I didn't reach the zombie finish line.

The only zombies here are the zombie trolls that repeat the same snarky comments and "free" market soundbites (tinged with some good old fashioned hate of course). It's like the 80s never died.

Prop 8 is a witch hunt.

Jesus - you can support a politician who doesn't support gay marriage while being pro-gay marriage yourself. Zuck has been a fan of Christie's attempts at school reform by taking on the sclerotic teacher's unions. THAT'S why he support Chris Christie.

Is the SFBG trying out an attempt to out-gay the BAR? This shit is ridiculous - endless articles on trannies and crap like this.

...really comes alive reading the these blogs.

There are PLENTY of reasons to dislike Mark Zuckerberg and his data-gathering monster, facebook. It's about time someone protest him for something! His support for a backward-ass Republican is a great place to start.

And Lucretia, your transphobia is so unwelcome in this city. You hurt people when you speak from your ignorance and your irrational fears. Please take a moment to reflect on your words and deeds and then please apologize for your rudeness and insensitivity.

Thank you.

In other words - we want to bitch and this is as good a reason as any.

"support for a backward-ass"
"unwelcome in this city"
"your ignorance"
"your irrational fears"

"If you don't agree with me, then you're full of hate." And "tolerance" is merely a buzzword for closing your mind and marching in lockstep with your fellow drones.

"It's about time someone protest him for something!"

Yes it is. Beginning with the data mining of FB (I refuse to have anything to do with FB). There are other reasons to protest him. Up until now there have been no protests of him, so it's good to see one...finally.

As for that lobotomized pleb troll you wrote about....what's there to say about THAT piece. S/he says the most hateful and disgusting things imaginable. S/he has no shame and no conscience at all, so what does one expect from some septic piece like that? One gets the lowest of lows, as expected. I don't know why this site continues to put up with her/him. Any other site would have banned it sometime ago.

Poor little jealous pet. Lucretia will feed you a few bits of caviar and pet your head.

Guest, don't feel bad, her hatred isn't limited just to transpeople. This is the person who said that African Americans "should be grateful to Europeans for enslaving them." This is the person who, in the context of discussing needed retrofits to save tenants' lives in the event of an earthquake, said "I don't give two shits about what tenants want." This piece of work is just an all-purpose hater. Anyone who is different than her own white, straight, well-off conservative Jewish self, is automatically an object of hate. Does it really surprise anyone that transphobia is just the latest thing to add to the list?

It is pitiful that so many people in this country support politicians on just one issue. I know it is important to you. I am a democrat and pro marraige rights for everyonee. And I have voted for Christie and will continue to, based on his policies overall. Do I like all his opinions? no. Has he done a great job? Yes.

Should the republicans have boycotted and protested him when he raised money for Obama? Of course not.

Grow yourselves up and stop your idiocy. It is the same Ideological nonsense that has the entire bible belt voting simply on abortion in this country.

And if you are dumb enough to think one party or the other is right on everything, then you are so closed minded you make the republicans seem open minded...

Your post has the air of white male American Conservative remnant claptrap; head on back to the sfgate nested comments.

As to your message, Prop 8 isn't doing too well in the courts either, making it +1 for the warriors of equality and only one step away from the court of last resort.
