BEST DJ: DANCE CLUB
MANEESH THE TWISTER

of Surya Dub and Dub Mission
As co-founder of the Dhamaal Artist Collective, Maneesh the Twister was already an established figure in the Bay Area's thriving South Asian hybrid beats scene when he founded Surya Dub at Club Six (every 4th Saturday.) In less than a year, this monthly party has become the premier destination for the dubwize community. His reputation for bass-driven eclecticism - encompassing everything from Roots Reggae to Dubstep, Breakbeat to Bhangra, South Asian Electronica and Global Bass Beat - has garnered a passionate following and multiple accolades and awards. Get your ass down to Club Six and prepare to shake it, and don't miss his sets at Dub Mission, the nation's longest-running weekly dub & roots night at Elbo Room every Sunday!

BEST DJ: BAR/LOUNGE
JAH YZER

of Milk, Nickie's, Pier 23 and Oasis
For over a decade, this Miami native has been dedicated to his vision of "keeping the music going" at a slew of Bay Area venues, cultivating a die-hard following. His ever-popular Tuesday stint at Milk still draws a massive crowd of true believers, as do his Thursday gigs at Nickie's, sets at Oakland's Oasis, and at Pier 23 (every 3rd Saturday.) One reader wrote of Yzer's "relentless pursuit for excellence," and true to his experimental nature, he has branched out from his reggae roots to include old-school hip-hop, soul and funk into his mix. DJ Jah Yzer's parties have proven to be essential destinations in the Bay Area music scene.

BEST DJ: SATELLITE/ONLINE RADIO
ELISE NORDLING

of SoMaFM.com
Followers of indie culture agree that Indie Pop Rocks! – the interweb's largest independent station – has become one of the most vital online resources for emerging artists. Serving as the station's Music Director since 2001, DJ Elise is renowned for her impeccable taste, encompassing everything from bleeding-edge unsigned bands to classic small-label favorites. More importantly, she has emerged as a savvy and passionate advocate for webcasters' rights in an ever-evolving media landscape. Because of this pioneer's curatorship, Indie Pop Rocks! has become required listening on a global scale.

BEST DJ: TERRESTRIAL RADIO
J.C. of KZSU 90.1 FM

"An Epiphany of Sound" Thursdays, 9am-noon
After 14 years, DJ J.C.'s techno/house/electronica showcase has garnered much attention and devotion. Like most folks at Stanford's radio station, he's a volunteer, proving that his motivation isn't a paycheck; it's his passion to share his interest in one of music's most eclectic genres. With his conversational style, inclusion of producers and musicians from both the local & international scene, and his stewardship of the station's 24-hour marathons during Solstices and Equinoxes, it's no wonder that DJ J.C has made a connection with listeners in a very crowded market. Catch his live broadcasts or listen to the previous week's program at underheard.org.
