Fielding your questions this month is local writer/porn star, Stephen Boyer. Check out some of his movies/pics here and an excerpt from his upcoming novel here. Read our 2008 interview with Boyer here. Read the last installment of Ask a Porn Star here

James N: How would legalizing prostitution change the lives of sex workers?

Stephen Boyer: Legalizing prostitution would help prostitutes because they wouldn’t fear being labeled a criminal. They would be empowered and able to take control of their situations better. Plus it would do away with the hypocrisy we are currently indulging in as a society. Take the homophobic Ted Haggard for instance, the priest that was caught with a male escort and forced to leave his church and town. Well, Haggard has since gone on television and has publicly admitted that what he did was a “sin,” but as far as I know he never faced any legal penalties despite the fact he was on drugs committing an illegal act. However, low-end prostitutes are being booked all the time and being shoved down the hellish rabbit hole that is our present legal system. I’m for keeping everyone out of that mess!

Gerry H: How do things change when you tell people that you’ve done porn?

Boyer: Well, navigating through college was a nightmare. I was in the gender studies program so you’d think people would have been understanding, but that wasn’t always the case. Some professors were nice about it, but the majority of the people at school proved to be backstabbers. Most of them were very unsympathetic to my situation.

Lilly H: Are any of your childhood friends involved in the porn industry?
Boyer: Yes. My friend Sarah Taylor is. She’s like a little sister to me and she has worked for a lot of different fetish model sites. I met her when I was seventeen and she was like 14 or 15. We both wanted to get into the industry and now we both have succeeded in that dream plus many others. She’s great, I love watching her grow.

Heather D: Given that you're paid to have sex, do you ever feel the need to masturbate?
Boyer: Yes. I don’t think my need to masturbate will ever go away. I’m still like a twelve year-old boy in the sense that I can jack off a few times a day, every day, and still feel somewhat horny.

Lucas D: What advice would you give to people who want to become porn stars?
Boyer: Have other goals. I’m not saying that porn shouldn’t be a goal, it’s a fun way to make money and it can lead to really rewarding sex; however, our time on earth is short and there are many interesting things one can accomplish, and good sex is only one of the many fascinating experiences available to humans.
