It's World AIDS Day -- and AIDS itself is still with us, of course. But did you know that just being HIV+ and having sex is a crime in many parts of the country? That people with HIV can be classified as sex offenders for life if they don't disclose their status? This short film, directed by Sean Strub and edited by former SFer Leo Herrera, explains:

It's horrifying that you'd defend such recklessly egregious behavior.

There is no excuse for NOT telling a sexual partner than you are HIV+. Even worse is lying about it if asked.

There is a HUGE difference between personal responsibility and legal culpability. In this day and age, it is the responsibility of BOTH partners to engage in sexual honesty: honest questions, honest answers. That being said, these laws are being grossly misused and abused because of the inherent racism, homophobia and HIV-stigma built into our legal system and their effects are counterproductive to stopping the spread of the disease.
